چکیده

This presentation describes the contribution of the group at KUN to Work-packages 2 and 3 in the following directions: (1) study of the properties and the behavior of variable versus fixed preconditioners, based on the so-called separate displacement component (SDC) formulation of the linear elasticity problem; (2) solution of problems with nearly incompressible material properties, based on a saddle point formulation of the linear elasticity problem; (3) solution of nonlinear elasticity problems using the already developed linear solvers. We present further tests of the performance of the linear solvers on the benchmarks formulated by MOST and GEAM. Also, we report the performance of a robust algebraic multilevel solution technique on irregular locally refined meshes. Finally, we report the theoretical and implementation work done to develop a solver which provides a uniform approach to solve elasticity problems with compressible and almost incompressible materials.

A dual-parametric finite element method for cavitation in nonlinear elasticity

A dual-parametric finite element method is introduced in this paper for the computation of singular minimizers in the two dimensional cavitation problem in nonlinear elasticity. The method overcomes the difficulties, such as the mesh entanglement and material interpenetration, generally encountered in the finite element approximation of problems with extremely large expansionary deformation. Nu...

Investigation of Linear and Nonlinear Buckling of Orthotropic Graphene Sheets with Nonlocal Elasticity Theories

In this paper, analysis of linear and nonlinear buckling of relatively thick orthotropic graphene sheets is carried out under mechanical load based on elasticity theories. With the help of  nonlocal elasticity theory, the principle of virtual work, first order shear theory and Von-Karman nonlinear strain, the dominant relationship in terms of obtained displacements has been obtained, and the me...

The Nonlinear Bending Analysis for Circular Nano Plates Based on Modified Coupled Stress and Three- Dimensional Elasticity Theories

In this paper, the nonlinear bending analysis for annular circular nano plates is conducted based on the modified coupled stress and three-dimensional elasticity theories. For this purpose, the equilibrium equations, considering nonlinear strain terms, are calculated using the least energy potential method and solved by the numerical semi-analytical polynomial method. According to the previous ...

Numerical Experiments for Multiscale Problems in Linear Elasticity

This paper gives numerical experiments for the Finite Element Heterogeneous Multiscale Method applied to problems in linear elasticity, which has been analyzed in [A. Abdulle, Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci. 16, 2006]. The main results for the FE-HMM a priori errors are stated and their sharpness are verified though numerical experiments.
